This small farming community of lush rolling fields along the Minas Basin is only minutes from restaurants, shops and festivals and a scenic day trip away from serious outdoor adventure or less adrenaline-filled recreational pursuits.

Several museums, numerous shopping malls and craft shops and picturesque Victoria Park are only eight minutes away in the town of Truro; a twenty-minute drive along the nearby Trans Canada Highway can place the avid outdoor enthusiast in a kayak in the Bay of Fundy or clinging to a Zodiac on a Tidal Bore Rafting Park Tour of the Shubenacadie River. Follow the Glooscap Trail to Parrsboro and explore the shores of the Minas Basin; here there are semiprecious agates and amethysts and in the sandstone cliffs, the fossilized remains of ancient plants or sea creatures that once inhabited the region. Fossil hunting along the Minas Basin can reveal an interesting assortment of treasures. Further along the Glooscap Trail is the Cape d'Or Lighthouse - one of most spectacular and most photographed lighthouses in Nova Scotia. For boating and water sport enthusiasts the shores of the Northumberland Strait offer the warmest water north of the Carolinas. There is the Anne Murray Centre in Springhill; the Jost Winery at Malagash; Mastodon Ridge at Stewiacke; the Shubenacadie Wildlife Park at Shubenacadie; the Pewter Factory and Grist Mills at Pugwash; and in the winter, Irwin Lake Chalets is only 30 minutes from the groomed hills and trails of Ski Wentworth.
